Every December, Volunteer Memphis holds its annual fundraiser and community service project, providing gifts of books, toys and school supplies to 6,000 Memphis City elementary school students. Each year, schools are selected by MCS to ensure that our gifts reach the students with the most need.

A Visit From Saint Nicholas coincides with the celebration of Saint Nicholas Day based on the legend of Saint Nicholas, who left gifts of gold at the doorsteps of those in need. Although one of the goals of this event is to raise funds for essential Volunteer Memphis programs, the most important goal is to teach children that the Spirit of Giving is alive and well in our community.

The Legend of Saint Nicholas

Remembered for his special love of children, Saint Nicholas is the subject of many legends of philanthropy.

Saint Nicholas was a virtuous man who was known for his charity and philanthropic spirit.  Today, Saint Nicholas Feast Day is celebrated as a children's holiday in many countries throughout the world and honors human kindness that helps build every community.

The Event

Volunteer Memphis celebrates Saint Nicholas Day with volunteers visiting thousands of children in schools throughout the Memphis area.  Children arrive on this magical morning to find gold tinsel sprinkled in the hallways, and on each desk is a special gift for the boys and girls.

You can also make a donation "In-Honor-Of" clients, friends, and family.  For every $25 donation, a beautiful holiday card will be mailed in December (and through the new year, if you'd like) to those you wish to honor.

Join us! You can help share the joy and the spirit of St. Nick.

Give Today! Your gifts will help provide elementary school kids with books & toys.  And, of course, it will also support the work of Volunteer Memphis/Hands on Memphis.
