Programs

Volunteer Memphis is an essential community partner in improving the quality of life in the Mid-South.  We work with nonprofits, churches, schools, and other groups that engage volunteers to make community programs stronger.  We do this by providing training and support to organizations and by offering assistance to individuals seeking to match their skills with a place to serve.

Program Descriptions:

Find a Place to Volunteer

This links you to our on-line database tool that helps find volunteer opportunities (by date, cause, agency, you name it!) in non-profit agencies throughout our community.  Check it out!

Board Connection

This training program is for current and future board members and covers the important roles and responsibilities of board members.  Training is also available for nonprofit organizations to assist them in refining the recruitment process in order to identify strong leaders and individuals passionate about their mission.

Corporate Neighbor Awards

Annual event hosted by the CVC that honors companies for outstanding leadership and projects in volunteerism.

Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC)

Helps companies of all sizes create new and support existing workplace volunteer programs.  Also provides a great network of like-minded community business partners.

Disaster Preparedness

Coordinates with local, state and federal emergency management groups to recruit and match volunteers with disaster relief volunteer opportunities in the event of a disaster.

Family Matters

Memphis Mentoring Partnership (MMP)

Coalition of organizations, coordinated by Volunteer Memphis, providing youth mentoring to the community. MMP provides training and technical assistance and helps organizations do a better job of serving youth who need mentoring.

Memphis Teen Volunteers (MTV)

Creates, promotes, and implements events year round to make youth volunteerism easy, accessible, and fun.  The MTV Summer Program helps place teens in agencies throughout the community.

Partnership Development

Create partnerships with various groups to address community needs.  Current partnerships include:  Memphis City Schools Our Children Our Future and Connect Mentoring Program; and the Academy Tutoring Project at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences, KIPP: Diamond Academy and Southern Avenue Charter School.

Spirit of Giving Awards

Annual National Volunteer Week event that provides a public and highly visible venue for nonprofits to recognize their most outstanding volunteers in a variety of categories.

Training

Training Services is dedicated to helping non-profit agencies and other organizations develop strong, effective volunteer programs that actively address community needs. We facilitate numerous workshops on all aspects of volunteer management (nonprofit, faith-based, etc), mentoring, and non-profit board leadership.  Also provide consulting, customized trainings, and referral services.

Tutoring – Academy Tutoring Project

Tutoring in math and reading at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences, KIPP: Diamond Academy, Southern Avenue Charter School, Star Academy and COSLA (Circles of Success Learning Academy). This project made possible by a grant from The Hyde Foundation.

A Visit from St. Nicholas

Annual fundraising program in December that gives Memphis City School students in low-income areas backpacks filled with books, school supplies, and toys.  It also teaches them about giving and explores ways they can give back to their own communities through service.
