– 7:00 p.m. Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue Presented by Volunteer Memphis and Memphis and Shelby County Health Department Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program
Featuring
nonprofit and government organizations active in disaster Event is free and open to the public In
September of 2005, Memphis opened its arms to more than
10,000 evacuees from the devastation caused by Hurricane
Katrina. More
than 7,000 Memphis-area volunteers helped these evacuees.
Volunteers sorted clothes in clothes closets,
provided meals from Salvation Army canteens, answered
phones, worked in shelters, collected donations at drop-off
sites, etc. You
can learn more about how YOU can get involved after the next
disaster. Learn about
being prepared before and during the next disaster and learn about opportunities to be a part of the
solution after the next big disaster.
Agencies such as the Memphis Light, Gas and Water,
Memphis/Shelby County Emergency Management Agency, Mid-South
Red Cross, Salvation Army and many more
will be on hand to answer questions about disaster relief
opportunities in the Mid-South and how you and your family
can be prepared. Everyone
is invited to this great event.
Volunteers - teens, seniors, church groups, and
individuals will all be needed after a disaster hits, so we
invite you, your friends, and your family to attend this
incredible event! If you are an agency and would like to participate, download
the participation form.
